Paul Woltz, bassoon
Paul holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Bassoon from the University of Southern California and moved to Seattle in 1984. He is principal bassoonist with the Cascade Symphony Orchestra, and also plays bassoon and alto and bass saxophone with 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre, and several jazz groups. Paul works as an instrument repairman for Kennelly Keys Music.
Lesley Bain, oboe
Lesley is a Northwest native and has played oboe and English horn with the Lyric Arts Ensemble, Orchestra Seattle, Northwest Symphony Orchestra, and various churches in the region. Lesley is an architect and urban designer, and a Principal at Framework Cultural Placemaking in Seattle.
Benjamin Gessel, horn
Ben is a freelance musician and composer and teaches piano, horn, and composition. He holds a degree in music from Central Washington University and also graduated from the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program. In addition to the Emerald Wind Quintet, Ben currently plays horn with the Thalia Symphony Orchestra, the Chinook Wind Octet, and other local ensembles.
Lisa Hedley, flute
Lisa teaches private flute lessons and plays with the Eastside Symphony, the Elle Flute Trio, and the Emerald Wind Quintet. She has been a soloist with the Eastside Symphony on multiple occasions, and she also enjoys performing in her church. To hear more of Lisa, visit her YouTube channel.
Valerie Kavanagh, clarinet
Valerie currently plays clarinet with the North Cascades Concert Band and the Emerald Wind Quintet. Eight years ago she also took up the oboe and English horn, which she plays in the Bayshore Symphony and the Mukilteo Community Orchestra.
